The meds in a pain patch are as much as 80 times stronger then morphine. I refused them myself and due to living in pain I a on Morphine sulphate instead. Yes, some people can have a bad attack with these. It’s strange she didn’t notice it right away and take it off. Once it clears the body she should be O.K.

The side effects of the pain relief patches can cause serious problems if it is an indication that she could be allergic to them (an example only).

I would recommend checking with the doctor who prescribed them as well to see what they say.

The doctors may have been talking about the CDC (Center for Disease Control) There have been lawsuits recently about Durgesic Pain Patches. It seems that they are defective and release too much medication. I don’t know if this is the case with your Nan. But it could be.

Yes they can, I am on Fentanyl Patch. The first patches had a gel substance inside two layers, but now they have got rid of that and the new ones are just like see through plasters. However, Fentanyl is the most powerful opioid known, with a potency approximately 80 times that of morphine, that is why it is given in a lower dose but time released via the patch. Street names for the drug include Apache, China girl, China white, dance fever, friend, goodfella, jackpot, murder 8, TNT, as well as Tango, Drop Dead and Cash. Effects include: euphoria, drowsiness/respiratory depression and arrest, nausea, confusion, constipation, sedation, unconsciousness, coma, tolerance, and addiction.
Last year I had serious pain and telephoned the Doctor to see if I should stick another Patch on. Double the dose? The Doctor asked me if I was alone and I was not so he stated I could but to make sure the other person kept me awake, made sure my breathing was not depressed as you can slip into a coma. The problem with these patches is not getting over heated, like in bed, having a shower, sitting in the sunshine, or any place that is hot, as the Patch can release too much medication. Likewise if the patch slips off me and sticks to my partner they have to be taken to ER. Best of Luck
